The story is set in the near future when some unspecified upheaval has caused the UK to break up into city states. Given recent events, I hope I have not ended up writing a documentary. The Democratic Republic of GLUT is run by Oliver Creed, refugees from the Cotswolds live behind the Barrier in East Oxford, and Pen Smith is the last philosopher in the world.

It started off as one book, but during the writing process it became clear that the story I had in my mind would take more than a single book to tell, and I now envisage a series of three. The first two, Kingdom Come and Daily Bread, are at various stages - Kingdom Come on what is I hope a final draft, Daily Bread on the third draft. I haven't started the third at all, although I have a rough sketch of the plot.
